How To Choose A Buyer’s Agent

Once you have decided that you would like to purchase a home.  Your next step should be choosing a quality buyer’s agent to assist you with your home purchase.  Amazingly, most buyers will not pick one or will choose someone without regard to their experience, knowledge, or success as a real estate agent. 

Consider the average home in the Syracuse area sells for $125,000.  Your price range may be below or above this.  Most people would agree that this will be the biggest investment they will make, yet they put very little thought into the professional they will choose to assist them in their purchase.  If you had $125,000 to invest, would you rather work with a financial advisor that just passed their Series 7 or a person that has years of experience and success in achieving results.  The answer is pretty clear. 

When you are choosing a buyer’s agent, you don’t want someone that is just going to drive you around to the houses you found and write a purchase offer.  You want a realtor that is a resource that will do the following:

• Educate you about the process
• Educate you about the market conditions and the areas you are interested in
• Be Available – Full Time Real Estate Agent
• Review your criteria and the likelihood of finding a home that matches
• Offer advice, suggestions, and alternatives
• Not Try To Sell You On Every Home, But To Find You The Right One
• Review comparable sales of homes that you like before making an offer
• Negotiate the best deal for you and look out for your interests

Most importantly, it's about finding the agent you feel the most comfortable with and that has the experience to represent you successfully!
